Frodsham Primary School Solar Project
Since the inception of Climate Action Frodsham, seeing renewable energy installations such as solar panels at our schools has been a key ambition. Solar energy has been identified by Project Drawdown as a key action to "drawdown" carbon, and involving our school communities in this action is something we are enthusiastic about.
In 2019 an application was made to Marshes Community Benefit Fund seeking to arrange an installation at Manor House Primary School. The fund is specifically for the benefit of the community in the local area of the wind farm located on the marshes as shown on the map. Sadly this was not successful.

In Jan 2020 we presented the case for school solar at Cheshire West and Chester Council's meeting, and the following week at their Climate Emergency Taskforce meeting.
Following the launch of CWaC's Climate Emergency Fund later in 2020, CAF members developed a business case and submitted an application to obtain this funding for an installation at Frodsham Manor House School.
Following the rejection of this application we have learned that CWaC are assessing schools across the borough for their suitability for solar, including schools in Frodsham, in collaboration with their partner organisation QWest Energy. A small number of schools have made it through the feasibility stage and are being progressed.
CAF members are now (Aug 2021) collaborating with CWaC to explore options for funding more solar installations at schools in our locality that have not been progressed by them, but using the information gained from their broad feasibility assessments.
